INSTRUCTIONS

PROJECT 1 - PROPOSAL

(Week 1 - Week 3)

For the first project, we need to come up with a proposal as a group for the whole module. The proposal is to concretise ideas, supported by research, for a final project design revolving a given theme. The theme for this module is: Cultural Sensitivity in Design. We are tasked to study a cultural phenomenon, or a particular subculture that is perceived as "sensitive". We are then needed to produce preliminary ideas on how to visually express our interpretation using design language.

Week 1

During the first week, we were all gathered in the lecture hall to separate all of us into groups. We all were assigned into groups of 6. My group members were: Li Yanxi, Chen Nan, Ye Xinyan, Nadhrah and Myra. We needed to choose a leader and they all voted for me to be the leader; I didn;t want to at first because I never became leader in a group project, but I wanted the experience to be a leader.

Once the groups were assigned, we decided to create a Whatsapp group to communicate with each other. We didn't do much more in the first week.

Week 2

In the second week, we had a group meeting to discuss what we wanted to do for our project. It took us a while to come up with a topic. At first, we wanted to do something related to "Feng Shui", however, in the end, we decided to go for: Colour Design in Chinese culture.

The colours we researched on are: Red, Yellow and White.

Before the meeting ended, we assigned each other tasks for us to do during the weekend.

Myself, Nadhrah and Myra: Do research on the selected colours and sketch out ideas for the final project.

Li Yanxi, Chen Nan and Ye Xinyan: Creating and designing the Google Slides.

Week 3

Once we completed our assigned tasks, we need to make a presentation video of our slides. As a group, we decided that myself, Nadhrah and Myra would make the presentation video.

PROJECT 2 - FIELD STUDY

(Week 4 - Week 5)

For this project, we basically needed to conduct a data gathering collection process about the topic we chose in the first project.

The data gathering collection methods we decided to go for were: Online Research, Field Study, and Interviews.

Week 4

On this week, we planned to go to the Malaysian Chinese Museum. However, I unfortunately felt sick during this week so I wasn't able to go. Three of my group mates went to the museum and took pictures relating to the colours we decided on.

As some of my group mates went to the museum, the other three of us did online research on our topic. We put all of the research into the slides.

Week 5

On week 5, we had a consultation with our lecturer. She went through our slides and she said that it would be best if we do more research. So during this week, we decided to interview three people that came from China to get their opinions.

Once that was completed, we put everything into the Google slides.

(Week 6 - Week 7)

For the final project, we basically need to design our initial idea.

As for our group, we decided to design a poster that showcases the colour design in Chinese culture. So we created a poster for each colour.

For this task, I assigned myself, Nadhrah, and Myra to create the posters and the slides. On the other hand, I assigned the Li Yanxi, Chen Nan, and Ye Xinyan to do the presentation.
